As a child, one of Phyllis' favorite pastimes was playing "connect the dots". Ironically, she carried that into adulthood as a consummate networker in both her professional and personal life. As a Packaging Specialist for MAC PAPERS, INC., Phyllis McCombs enjoys working with every facet of business from designing medical, industrial or automotive packaging systems and sales of their consumables, to optimizing warehouse operations for all sizes of companies.

She is a 20yr+ member of The Women's Network, a Past President of Network Birmingham, and has been an award recipient of Birmingham Business Journal’s "Top Forty Under Forty" and "Top Ten Birmingham Women".

Phyllis lives the "Givers Gain" theory and enjoys giving back to the community through her support of Hand in Paw, serving as a Past President of their Board of Directors and a Past Board Member of Terrific New Theatre as well as serving on various volunteer committees for First Light Shelter, YWCA, AIDS Alabama, Greater Bham Humane Society and the Bham Holocaust Education Center(BHEC).

Why have you decided to serve as a Torchbearer for the JLB?
I want my village of friends and business associates to play a part in laying the foundation of creating a place of compassion where victims of abuse can find the services they need, all in one place, while finding their strength and their voices.

What/who inspires you to be a Light in our community?
Gosh, I’m so grateful for the many special friends that have influenced my life, personally and professionally.  First and foremost, Judge Sandra Storm, for her common sense, tough love compassion and wry wit; Stanley Lawler, my Father figure, for his shrewd business acumen; Suzanne Durham along with Allison Black Cornelius, for their ability to get things done in the face of adversity and, last but far from least, Cathy Friedman, for her broad example of what it means to be a true civic leader for the greater good of all in our community.
