Tonya Jones has over 17 years of experience in cosmetology and is the owner of Tonya Jones SalonSpa, which has two locations. She moved to Birmingham in 2004 and in 2009 at the age of 29 she opened her first location at Cahaba Village. Only four years later, in 2013, she opened her second location in English Village. She has had the honor of receiving several awards over these past 7 years; young professional small business award from the Birmingham Business Alliance, named to the list of Top 200 salons in America by Salon Today Magazine in 2016 and 2017, and locally awarded the Best of Birmingham in 2016.

Since 2004 Tonya has worked hard to not only succeed at her craft but also imbed herself in the community she loves. As a respected community leader, she has been elected to several positions. In 2014 she was elected to become a board member of the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce where she held the role of Co-VP of English Village and now holds the position of Vice President of Marketing and Communication on the Board of Directors. Still wanting to be more involved, in 2015 she was elected to become a board member for The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham and in 2016 was elected to be a board member for Camp Smile-A-Mile. Tonya still holds these positions and loves giving back to help Birmingham and Mountain Brook grow.

Tonya grew up in a small town outside of Hattiesburg in Mississippi called New Augusta. She graduated from Perry Central High School in 1998 and went on to play softball at Jones County Community College. After attending JCJC she went on to attend University of Southern Mississippi and the College of Cosmetology to follow her dream in the beauty industry and entrepreneurship.

Tonya has a deep love for family, which is one of the reasons that brought her to Birmingham. In order to be closer to her only brother and her nieces she moved to Birmingham to follow her dream and for the love of family. She met her future husband the first day she moved to Birmingham, little did they both know they would be married 2 years later. Tonya and her husband, Bryan Combs, have been happily married for over 10 years and have two doggers, Maggy May and Samantha Jones.

Why have you decided to serve as an inaugural Torchbearer for the JLB?
I am honored to serve as one of JLB torchbearers. The impact that this will make on people's live and this community is inevitable.  I believe in the mission to improve the lives of women and children.  I am furthermore personally moved by this cause because women need a voice and they need to be heard.

What/who inspires you to be a Light in our community?
I am inspired by all of the victims of domestic violence.  To know that I can contribute and unite with a great community to fight and work together to help those in need, then I will.
